Abstract

Background: Infertility-related stress can profoundly affect the marital satisfaction of infertile couples. Resilience serves as a coping resource, and can efficiently manage psychological stress. Objective: This study aimed to investigate whether resilience mediated the association of infertility-related stress with marital satisfaction. The hypothesis suggests that resilience would play a mediating role in the association of infertility-related stress with marital satisfaction. Sample: The study was conducted in Karachi, Pakistan from September to December, 2023 in which 40 married couples (40 husbands, 40 wives) with the age ranged between 20 to 40 years, were selected from the Gynecology and Obstetrics departments of various hospitals and infertility clinics in Karachi, Pakistan, by using a purposive sampling technique. Material and Method: Brief interviews of the participants were conducted and Urdu versions of Infertility-Related Stress Scale, the Resilience scale-25, and Enriched Marital Satisfaction Scale were administered. Data analysis was performed through SPSS, V-25 for mediational analysis that was performed by utilizing the Process Macro Hayes to explore the mediating role of resilience in the association between infertility stress and marital satisfaction. Result: The results revealed that resilience fully mediated the association between infertility stress and marital satisfaction. Conclusion: This highlights that resilience mediates the link between stress due to infertility and marital satisfaction, which significantly impacts individuals’ coping with fertility difficulties. Implications: These findings would support understanding the role of resilience and inform the development of targeted interventions to enhance resilience in couples facing fertility challenges.
